Mahindra seems to be doing a load test on the Thar 5-door as it has placed jerry cans in the interior. These jerry cans give us a fair idea about the space. The boot space seems decent enough, but someplace is taken up by the wheel arches. In the second row, we can see decent enough space. Overall, the Thar 5-door does seem to be a more practical car. This seems to be a lower variant as it doesn’t sport an infotainment system, and a digital instrument cluster spied on earlier test mules.
Mahindra Thar 5-door – What else to expect?
The Thar 5-door is going to get some subtle changes in the exterior. It is going to get new circular LED headlamps with LED DRLs on the outline. Also, the grille now gets a prominent cut in the middle. Then we could see new alloy wheels and a hood scope. At the rear, we could see new tail lamps. Overall, the thar 5-door has a good amount of road presence. In the interiors, we expect new features like a sunroof, a bigger infotainment system, ventilated seats, ADAS, a digital instrument cluster, etc.

Specifications
With bigger dimensions, the Thar 5-door would also need more power. It would continue with the 2.0-litre turbo petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engine but with more powerful tunes. The petrol engine will be capable of producing 200bhp and 370Nm of torque. While the diesel engine will be capable of producing 172bhp and 370Nm of torque. Transmission options should include manual and automatic gearboxes. The Thar 5-door could come with a 4×4 option at launch, and 4×2 would be launched later on.
Mahindra Thar 5-door – Launch timeline
The Thar 5-door has looked production-ready in the last few spy shots. According to rumours, Mahindra could launch the 5-door version on 15th August 2024 as it did with the 3-door version in 2020. What about the pricing? The Thar 5-door could start from Rs 18 lakh and go to Rs 23 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
