The Mahindra Thar has been a runaway success in the lifestyle SUV segment. Mahindra is selling on average 5k to 6k units of the Thar, which is mind-boggling for a lifestyle SUV. The brand’s plan to bring a 4×2 variant of the Thar has worked wonders and now a similar formula could be used by Force Motors on the Gurkha.

Why a Gurkha 4×2?
According to media reports, Force Motors is working on a new 4×2 variant of the Gurkha 3-door. A 4×2 variant could help Force price the Gurkha more aggressively due to the deletion of the 4×4 drivetrain, differential locks and manual transfer case. Also, most people don’t need this additional hardware and just buy the SUV for the looks as seen with the high demand for Thar 4×2.
What to expect?
Force’s approach will be similar to what Mahindra did with the Thar. So the only deletion will be the 4×4 tech and the rest of the car will remain more or less similar. Force recently updated the Gurkha with a better engine tune and more features. So, we don’t expect any new things on the 4×2 variant. The Gurkha 4×2 will come with a four-seat configuration with captain seats in the second row. It will also continue with the 2.6-litre diesel engine capable of producing 132bhp and 320Nm of torque. The 5-speed manual transmission should continue on the 4×2 variant.

Force Gurkha 4×2 – Launch
The Gurkha 4×2 is still in the early stages of development. However, considering there are no major changes, it shouldn’t be that much of a time-consuming task for Force Motors. We expect Force to launch the Gurkha 4×2 sometime in 2025. Currently, the Gurkha 3-door is priced at Rs 20.41 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). So, we expect the 4×2 variant to be priced around the Rs 16 to Rs 17 lakh mark (on-road, Mumbai).
