Dimensions & design
The images might deceive you, but the Tayron is a big car. It is 4,735mm in length, 1,859mm in width & 1,682mm in height. For reference, the Toyota Fortuner measures 4,795mm in length. Coming to the design, the design of the Tayron is very similar to the new Tiguan. We have a closed-off grille with connected LED DRLs. The air dam gets a different look on the sportier R variant and the lower variants. In the side profile, we have a coupe-like C-pillar. At the rear, we have wrap-around tail lamps and blacked-out elements.
Volkswagen 7-seater SUV – Interior & features
The interior of the Tayron is again similar to the new Tiguan. On the dashboard, we have screens galore with a digital instrument cluster, an infotainment system and a 3rd screen for the co-passenger. The rest of the dashboard is quite minimalistic with no extra buttons. Overall the white dashboard, seats and steering look quite neat. Other highlighted features include a 360-degree camera, wireless phone charging, heads-up display, dual-zone climate control and ADAS.

Specifications
In China, the Tayron comes with a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine in two state of tunes. The lower variants get the 181bhp tune, while the R variant gets the 214bhp tune. In other global markets, VW could offer a 2.0-litre diesel and a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid. Don’t get too excited, as in India we expect only the 2.0-litre turbo petrol that powers the Kodiaq. Transmission options should include a 7-speed DCT gearbox and AWD option.
Volkswagen 7-seater SUV – India launch?
According to reports, Volkswagen could bring the Tayron to India through the CBU route. India could get the 7-seater variant that was spotted testing in Germany earlier this month. Being a CBU, we can expect the price to be north of Rs 50 lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Once launched, the Tayron will rival products like the Toyota Fortuner, Skoda Kodiaq, Jeep Meridian and MG Gloster.
