NSE profit breaches $1-billion mark; board recommends 4:1 bonus issue

The National Stock Exchange has breached the USD 1 billion profit mark, with its consolidated profit after tax surpassing Rs 8,300 crore in fiscal 2023-2024. The board further recommended a dividend of Rs 90 per share (pre-bonus) for the fiscal year ended 2023-24, amounting to a payout of Rs 4,455 crore. The National Stock Exchange has breached the USD 1 billion profit mark, with its consolidated profit after tax surpassing Rs 8,300 crore in fiscal 2023-2024. The exchange achieved this milestone despite its total expenses increasing 90 percent year-on-year to Rs 5,350 crore compared to Rs 2,812 crore in FY23.

The company on May 3 recommended the issue of 4 bonus shares for the existing 1 share held. The board further recommended a dividend of Rs 90 per share (pre-bonus) for the fiscal year ended 2023-24, amounting to a payout of Rs 4,455 crore.

The NSE contributed Rs 43,514 crore to the exchequer during FY24, which consisted of STT (Securities Transaction Tax) of Rs 34,381 crore, income tax (Rs 3,275 crore), stamp duty (Rs 2,833 crore), GST (Rs 1,868 crore), and Sebi charges (Rs 1,157 crore). Out of the STT of Rs 34,381 crore, 60 percent was from the cash market segment and the remaining 40 percent was from the equity derivatives segment.

NSE’s networth as of March 31, 2024, stood at Rs 23,974 crore. Total expenses in Q4FY24 stood at Rs 1,926 crore, of which 46 percent was towards SEBI regulatory fees, additional contribution to Core SGF and contribution to IPFT. The corpus of core SGF as of March 31, 2024, is Rs 8,819 crore.

The cash market reported an average daily traded volume (ADTV) jumped 127 percent year-on-year to Rs 1.11 lakh crore in the quarter ended March 2024. ADTV for equity futures rose 60 percent to Rs 1.79 lakh crore and for equity options (premium value) ADTVs climbed 27 percent to Rs 75,572 crore in Q4FY24.
