Future of Diesel Engines in India
On the sidelines of the launch of the Tata Altroz Racer, Vivek Srivatsa, chief commercial officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility stated that sales of diesel engine has picked up in some of their products. He believes till emission norms allow, the demand for diesel engines will remain strong. According to him, the demand for diesel engines is not going to tamper off very soon. Currently, diesel accounts for 8 percent and 16 percent of total sales for the Altroz and Nexon respectively. Its bigger SUVs like the Harrier and Safari only come with a diesel engine for now. But Tata is working on petrol and EV variants of the Harrier to navigate any problems for the future.
Tata’s upcoming products
Tata has a lot of new products lined up for the next couple of years. This year it has plans to launch the Curvv EV and ICE variants. The Curvv ICE will come with a diesel engine. Additionally, Tata Motors is also expected to bring back the iconic Sierra in its new avatar sometime in 2025. There are also updates to cars like Punch, Tiago, and Tigor expected to come in this time frame. After that, we can expect products based on the Avinya architecture in 2026.
