Toyota Fortuner Rival: Nissan X-trail

The first Toyota Fortuner rival to be launched in India is the Nissan X-Trail. A legacy nameplate in the Indian market, the current generation X-Trail was first showcased in 2022. Since then, the launch of the new SUV has been delayed for reasons unknown.

But now the company has finally teased the upcoming four-wheeler. Key features revealed include a large touchscreen infotainment unit with wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto, panoramic sunroof, dual zone AC, wireless charger, digital instrument cluster and more. Additionally, Nissan is also offering level-2 ADAS with the model to give it an edge over the Fortuner.

The 7-seater SUV will come powered by a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine mated to a CVT automatic gearbox. Offered as a CBU, the new Nissan X-Trail will attract a premium pricing of Rs 50 lakh to Rs 60 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

MG Gloster

The next model on this list is the MG Gloster. The only ladder-on-frame rival to the Fortuner, the Gloster is soon set to get a major update. Based on the Maxus LDV90, the new SUV gets a boxy design which makes it look bigger than before. Up front, it gets a large grille flanked by vertically stacked LED headlamps. Despite the larger size, we expect the model to continue with the 19-inch alloy wheels although with a different design. At the rear, expect a new connected LED taillamp and a reprofiled bumper.

While the interiors have not been spotted, we expect a slight re-design of the dashboard along with more luxurious leather seats. The 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment unit has been redesigned along with the new digital instrument cluster. Other key elements on the inside include a large panoramic sunroof, electrically adjustable seats with memory function, multi-zone AC, heated & ventilated seats, dual wireless charger and more. Level-2 ADAS will continue on the model along with 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, electronic parking brake and TPMS.

Mechanically we expect the new MG Gloster facelift to continue with the same 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine with mild-hybrid tech. The transmission option will include only the 8-speed automatic gearbox with a rotary AWD knob. The MG Gloster Facelift is expected before the end of 2024 priced between Rs 48 lakh and Rs 55 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Toyota Fortuner Rival: Skoda Kodiaq

The last Skoda rival on this list is the Skoda Kodiaq. Spotted testing in the Indian market, the next-gen Kodiaq is expected to launch as a CKD unit by mid-2025. The new model features an evolutionary design language with a revised LED headlamp, connected taillamp and bumpers. The design for the 20-inch alloy wheels is all-new helping improve the overall stance of the SUV.

Moving inside, the next-gen Skoda Kodiaq gets an all-new dashboard that houses the 13-inch touchscreen infotainment unit and the smaller full digital instrument cluster. Other key features on offer include a three-zone AC with rotary controls, a multi-functional two-spoke steering wheel, a wireless charger with cooling, a panoramic sunroof and more.

The second-generation model will continue with the 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine. This engine produces 190 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. The 4X4 system from the current model will be carried forward to the new car. Expect a competitive pricing between Rs 47 lakh and Rs 52 lakh (on-road, Mumbai) for the model.
