Majority of these, about 6,661 were appeals for account ban.The company stated that it received 5 reports from the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) from March 1, 2024 to March 31, 2024. The GAC is established by the Government of India to address citizens' concerns on social media platforms. WhatsApp said that it complied with all five of them.In its monthly report, WhatsApp said that the abuse detection of the platform operates at three stages of an account’s lifestyle. These are at the time of registration, during messaging, andin response to negative feedback that the platform receives in the form of user reports and blocks.

WhatsApp says that it banned more than 7.9 million accounts in India between March 1 to March 31, 2024. Releasing its latest monthly report, the platform said that 1,430,000of these accounts were proactively banned, before any reports from users.The report was published under the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.The Meta-owned messaging app said that it received 12,782 grievance requests during the time frame. Majority of these, about 6,661 were appeals for account ban.The company stated that it received 5 reports from the Grievance Appellate Committee (GAC) from March 1, 2024 to March 31, 2024. The GAC is established by the Government of India to address citizens' concerns on social media platforms. The Meta-owned company said that these reports are then evaluated by a team of analysts.In addition to responding to and actioning on user complaints through the grievance channel, WhatsApp said that it also deploys tools and resources to prevent harmful behavior on the platform.“We are particularly focused on prevention because we believe it is much better to stop harmful activity from happening in the first place than to detect it after harm has occurred,” it said.
