Popular messaging platform WhatsApp has been bringing new features via beta updates in the last few months. Now the Meta-owned platform has introduced a new feature that enables users to create events in group chats, which was previously only available in the Communities section.
According to a new report by WABetaInfo, this feature started rolling out to limited beta testers with WhatsApp beta for Android 2.24.9.20 update and will soon be available to other beta users and later via a stable update. This update aims to simplify the process of organising meetings or activities directly within your WhatsApp chats.

The ‘Event’ icon is accessible through the clip menu within group chats, allowing users to seamlessly create and manage events directly within the group chats. We can also the ‘Event’ icon to add more functionalities in the future, including the ability to add event reminders and set cover photos.
Once a user creates an event, group members can view and accept invitations while the creator can update the details of it later. Like all the messages in the app, these events are also end-to-end encrypted, ensuring privacy and confidentiality for all participants.
While WhatsApp has not disclosed a definitive timeline for the global stable rollout of the Events feature across all group chats, we can expect this functionality to be rolled out within the coming weeks. Additionally, WhatsApp has introduced some more features to its platform, including the ability to add 32 members via group calls and AI chatbot.
